Bruno gets battered by the ‘Twitter effect’ (Twattered)…>

It saw an incredible PR campaign which created such a buzz that the BNP most likely dismissed their prejudices to pre-order tickets in anticipation of the uber-gay-themed controversial comedy “Bruno”.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s portrayal of a camp Austrian fashionista attempting to make it big in the US introduced a publicity drive incomparable to any other I have seen in a long time. Dominating the media each day the hype was insane, and it’s opening weekend topped the charts both in the UK and the states taking £5 million at the UK box office alone, the second highest opening for an 18-certificate film in the country even though it fell short of Baron Cohen’s £6.24 million opening of the 15-certificate Borat in November 2006.

Despite the flying success of its first weekend at cinemas Bruno was soon subject to a barrage of snap judgments and word-of-mouth publicity from fan to fan via social networking sites including Twitter and Facebook such as this from user Cathy Zhang: “Some scenes from Bruno I’ll never erase from my mind.” On the flip side, many Twitter commentators raved about “Bruno.”

Bruno suffered from the “Twitter effect,” meaning audiences reacted quickly online to raunchy scenes of sex and nudity, scaring people away. A process which can boost, or bomb, ticket sales.

It is becoming more and more apparent that this instant process of critique amongst peers can create a box office hit or a flop is forcing major studios to revamp marketing campaigns.

Adam Fogelson, Universal’s president of marketing and distribution said even Twitter comments that seem critical can be good publicity because they show people are passionate about the movie and can spark discussion that increases attendance. He attributed “Bruno’s” lopsided opening day not to negative fan buzz, but to an unusually large crowd of Cohen’s fans rushing to see the film on its first day.

Film marketers look at weekly declines in ticket sales to judge fan buzz. In recent years those “drops” have widened significantly as communication has speeded up thanks to the Internet and more recently social networking services like Twitter and Facebook.

This summer, which is the most lucrative movie season and can make up as much as 40 percent of annual box office, ticket revenues for new films have dropped 51 percent, on average, from week No. 1 to week No. 2, a figure matched only in 2007, according to tracking firm Box Office Mojo.

In a bid to tackle this studios are actively using Twitter to not only allow viewers to voice their opinions via an official movie-Twitter, but PR-controlling everything that actors Tweet on set.

It will be interesting to see how big budget movies like the recently released “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and the up-coming, much anticipated “New Moon”, sequel to the popular vampire saga “Twilight” fair against the Twitter effect or even mediahustler‘s newly penned phrase: ‘‘Twattered’

Gisele is revealed as the worlds richest model >

Forbes.com announced yesterday that the incredibly hot Gisele Bundchen is officially the highest paid model in the world.

Raking in more than £15million in the past year this marks the third year Gisele Bundchen has been top of the list of highest-paid models and at only 28 years old, the girl has done well. Despite this success though, it appears even the most beautiful and most paid model in the world is also subject to the current climate as the list reports she is £6mill down on the year before due to the economic crisis.

With campaigns for Versace, Dior, True Religion Jeans, and Ebel watches. Not to mention, her own line of shoes and flip-flops, called Ipanema Shoes it easy to see how she keeps the money flowing in her direction. Recently married to NFL Patriots player Tom Brady (one lucky, lucky, lucky man), it’s been rumoured Gisele is pregnant, however the couple are denying it.

German model Heidi Klum came in second earning £10million and British star Kate Moss was placed third with £5.8million, which was up by £620,000 upon last year. The top 5 highest-earning models didn’t change from last year.

PPQ for Vodafone PPPARTY >

Last night saw the launch of PPQs collaboration with mobile service provider Vodafone in which they created a rather chic and stylish bag to protect and transport their Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook.

PPQ

mediahustler managed to blag an invite to the event held at PARAMOUNT in London last night and admittedly schmoozed & boozed more than I expected, in my defence the free Barcadi Mojitos and Peroni were too good to decline.

Also in attendance were Lola and Tali Lennox, Leah Wellar, Assisi Jackson, Jazzy De-Lisser, Fifi Brown, and obviously PPQ designers Amy and Percy

Word on the top level venue was that Peaches Geldof was on the phone to the girls all night letting them know she was on the way – but she left as soon as she turned up because she’d heard Feris was inside – awkward…

Prince Harry’s new love interest Caroline Flack was also there eyeing up the PPQ bags as DJ’s c’est jour Broken Hearts were playing their usual retro-spectacular set.

The venue was packed, even beyond its finishing time to which the guests hurried to the after party at West End club M*vida where Clack, Amy and Percy all hit the decks.

Overall it was a great night, highlight to this beyond the drinks was meeting American VOGUE editor Mark Holgate…

Until the next party, mediahustler out…

Sing-a-long with Wootton…>

xs

Dan Wootton, the News of the World’s Celeb XS columnist has himself gone to excess, in a bid to increase his popularity he has recorded his very own theme tune!

Not content with getting the gossip on our favourite/worst celebrities and getting photographed with as many famous faces as possible he has only gone and done a ‘Joe Mott’! With the help of Take That protégé Gary Go – who, with Wootton will open for TT during their tour this year – have created a rather catchy tune, one of which mediahustler is struggling to get out of his head…

Check out the tune by clicking here.

RESPECT!

Rap-superstar Eminem has teamed up with Marvel for a special-edition comic book to promote his sixth studio album Relapse, which is due out on May 18.

Eminem’s love of the Marvel Universe’s skull-shirted vigilante is no secret, as the rapper recently appeared dressed as the Punisher on two different covers of ’s June issue.

In the violent strip, called Punisher/Eminem: Kill You, the rapper is fully-armed and ready to take on the bad guys!

According to the MTV website, Eminem is also releasing an iPhone game to accompany the new album.

Joan Collins sticks with what she knows…>

At the party for the Selfridges centenary Lily Allen came face to face with the queen of glamour and bitchiness Joan Collins, not expecting to be subject to the latter the pop-princess attempted to greet her ‘icon’ with the generic air kiss Collins responded with, “I don’t kiss people I don’t know.” Now I myself am often uncomfortable with this form of welcome but Joan, steady on old girl, even the monarch has been known to accept a kiss when meeting new people.

Funny thing is, Lily Twittered this news (via The Sun) revealing that her personal role model had completely dissed her. I am not sure what is worst, being destroyed by Alexis Morell Carrington Dexter Rowan Colby or telling everyone about it causing just as much embarrassment!

Media movements…>

Over the last two quarters there have been a large number of redundancies and resignations, the recession has hit the media industry massively and it continues to bite. Whilst a lot of the changes at press and media houses have been down to the crunch others are taking a different approach.

Apparent most recently across the celeb/showbiz and gossip columns and reporters, note: Sunday Mirror, Sean Hamilton (going freelance) / Zoe Griffin (pursuing an ‘exciting’ new-project), Closer, Dean Piper (taking over from Griffin).

It has been reported in the last week that the News of the Worlds executive editor, Neil Wallis whose career spread across the Daily Record, The Sun and The People has also decided to part ways. Whilst it is not clear which avenue Wallis will be pursuing, NOTW editor Colin Myler announced Wallis had had an “outstanding career not just on the News of the World but also at The Sun. His experience and contribution has been invaluable to me personally and to everyone on the paper. He will be missed and I wish him every success in the future.” His replacement has not yet been confirmed.

With all these editorial movements it will be interesting to see who goes next and whether these individuals have been privy to internal information about the publications current standing – jumping ship before it sinks – or has the sign of the times just given people the incentive to try something new?

Little man Tinchy Stryder set to hit the BIG TIME!>

The UK grime MC Tinchy Stryder looks set to go straight to the top spot with the aptly named track ‘Number 1’. Featuring ‘ghetto rudeboys’ N-Dubz, the star in the hood has been smashing the mid-weeks and despite his short stature, coming in at ‘tinchy’ 5’1 the prince of grime is set to knock Calvin Harris off his current position and leave a rather miffed La Roux who was also vying for the spot blaming the upcoming result on the lack of radio support for her song ‘In For The Kill’ (a mediahustler favourite).

The Sun’s Gordon Smart reported in today’s Bizarre section that the 21 year old East Londoner is flying to the US next week to meet the same Universal Records team who launched Amy Winehouse on the other side of the Atlantic. Looks like the kid could obliterate the combined success of fellow grimer’s Dizzee Rascal & Kano – GO ON BOY!

Check out the song below…

The real Slim Shady stands up for MTV Movie Awards…>

After making his MTV comeback recently Eminem will be returning to the stage on May 31st at the MTV Movie Awards as he is named the first performer for this year’s awards. The performance will come just 12 days after Slim Shady releases his new record Relapse, his first of two new albums this year.

The event will be hosted by MediaHustlers favourite comedian right now, Saturday Night Lives and the Lonely Island’s Andy Samberg.

More performers expected to be announced shortly and there have been no reports as to which song Slim Shady will rap at the awards show, but it’s safe to assume it will be a new track — and considering Samberg’s fondness (see: I’m On A Boat feat. T-Pain) for hip-hop, it’s possible the two could joing up for some musical hilarity!

LiLo lookalike keeping former lover Ronson entertained…>

Ouch, it appears Sam Ronson has moved on from former lover Lindsay Lohan as reported by celeb-gossip blogger www.wwtdd.com  who revealed that a source from the Chateau Marmont had said Sam was ”clearly with another woman — somewhat of a Lindsay look-alike, but with very dark hair … They sure looked very cozy, if you know what I mean.”

Whilst it can be hard to get over a break-up, I have to admit, Lindsay – I am here if you need me, REBOUND, HOT!
