Kanye West vs. Taylor Swift – PR’s wet dream…>

Rap superstar Kanye West interrupted country singing teenager Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video during this weekend’s MTV Video Music Awards in a dramatic outburst. The musician ran onto the stage raving that Beyonce should have won the prize to a jeering audience.

Beyonce, who won video of the year and two other awards for Single Ladies, later invited Swift back onto the stage to complete her acceptance speech.

He has since apologised leaving the below post on his blog:

I feel like Ben Stiller in “Meet the Parents” when he messed up everything and Robert De Niro asked him to leave… That was Taylor’s moment and I had no right in any way to take it from her. I am truly sorry.

Whilst West’s outspoken stage-invasion caused a degree of annoyance and a level of disrespect, the overall outcome of his actions will inevitably work in Swift’s favour. How so? Much like the MTV Movie Awards stunt between Sacha Baron Cohen’s ‘Bruno’ and Eminem it created such a buzz and mass hype that the profile of both was some of the most searched online and off.

It is not clear whether the actions of West and reaction of Swift were premeditated in a bid to create controversy and excitement but the inevitable aftermath of this is likely to cause a flutter of exhilaration for Miss Taylor Swift’s publicist above and beyond the actual winning of the award.

With backing from Beyonce, a formal apology from Kanye and a viral video all over the web not to mention the amount of fan videos (below) posted in response to their thoughts on the matter this is already causing mass awareness even for those who didn’t see the actual show are tuning in anyway possible to see the action. Likelihood is, Swift will now be seen in interviews across the media and other PR tactics will be employed to capitalise upon this.

mediahustler will be watching this space.

For other famous and rather funny stage invasions check out the Mirror.co.uk for their top 10 including such highlights as 50 Cent, the late Michael Jackson, Iggy Pop, Robbie Williams and others.

Featured on Holy Moly’s mailout section, the celebrity gossip & entertainment/media site revealed the following:

Bungling Nuts staffer Adam Ralph struck again this week with another faux pas that is helping to cement the 36-year-old as the Frank Spencer of the tit-mag. On hearing that Dizzee Rascal was said to be in the neighbouring NME office delivering his latest album, Ralph rushed onto the shop floor of the prestigious music bible and accosted the rapper, exclaiming in front of a crowd of gathered music hacks: “I’m so pleased to meet you, Dizzee.”

“Why don’t you fuck yourself off,” replied the rapper, who was quite visibly Lethal Bizzle.

Tron gets digital upgrade with 3D sequel >

I may not have been  born until two years after the 1982 original but I was fortunate enough to catch “Tron” at a later date and I have never looked back since. Now, the highly-anticipated sequel sees an upgrade from analogue to  full 3D and given the title “Tron Legacy”.

The original was the very first film to use computer-animation extensively which saw Jeff Bridges play Kevin Flynn a former employee of the software corporation ENCOM who ends up running a arcade.Flynn has been trying to hack into ENCOM’s mainframe computer to find evidence that ENCOM’s senior executive Ed Dillinger stole four video games he created. But Dillinger’s supercomputer “Master Control Program” foils Flynn’s efforts and dictates and controls most of the computer systems. One night, Flynn’s former girlfriend Lora and her boyfriend, ace computer programmer Alan Bradley helps Flynn break into ENCOM to shut down the MCP with Alan’s security program “TRON”. But MCP uses Lora’s matter transmission program and converts Flynn into data and sends him into the computer. Flynn finds himself in a electronic world ruled by the MCP and his evil chief henchman Sark, where computer programs are the alter-egos of their creators and are forced to compete in gladiatorial games. With help from Tron, a heroic and fearless security program and his lover, Yori, Flynn sets out destroy the MCP and help Tron liberate the system from the MCP’s control, by destroying the MCP is Flynn’s only way of returning to the real world.

The new film, “Tron Legacy” is a high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn, played by Garrett Hedlund is the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn, looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant, father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

With Daft Punk creating the sound track, “TRON Legacy” will be a movie not to miss out on, penned for  2011 release mediahustler is more than a little excited.

The official trailer can be seen below, recently premiering at the San Diego Comic Con it is looking rather slick and to add some texture to this baddass clip click here for the original 1982 trailer.

Brand Health Check: MySpace >

Now lagging behind Facebook and Bebo, MySpace is crying out for a strategy rejig – Marketing magazine reports…

MySpace

MySpace launched in the UK in 2006, having already established itself in the US market, targeting the 16- to 34-year-old music fans it believed were gold dust to advertisers.

Aimed at an older audience than rival Bebo, the News Corp-owned social networking site positioned itself as a free and open community of music producers and fans, and even launched an independent record label, MySpace Records, to develop artists. The site had a meteoric rise in its early years, becoming the most-visited in the US – overtaking Yahoo! and Google – in 2006.

MySpace has become a victim of its own success, however. In an attempt to get back to its start-up roots, it is cut-ting its ‘bloated’ staff numbers, making 100 redundancies in the UK alone.

Despite its best efforts to persuade brands that a third of social network users will click through to buy services, advertising partnerships have also been harder to come by this year. Mars terminated its title sponsorship of Mars Planets Radio, for which MySpace says it is now seeking a replacement. Its deal with Google, which provides search and advertising on MySpace, is also set to expire in 2010.

Now trailing behind Facebook and Bebo, with Hitwise figures showing UK visits to MySpace have dropped by 50% in the past year, the pressure is on to make some major changes.

The media capitalises with Michael Jackson tributes issues >

Smash Hits Special Edition Tribute To Michael Jackson

Publishers are taking advantage of the public interest and pushing out tribute issues of the late Michael Jackson. Bauer Media and NatMags are both prime examples of this, with Bauer reintroducing the former teen music magazine, Smash Hits which had closed more than three years earlier with a one off edition costing £2.99 a piece. Interestingly the issue will feature content from The Word editor, Mark Ellen who is a former SM journalist.

The magazine which now has a stable online & broadcast presence saw sales of over 1million copies when the likes of Kylie & Jason graced the cover. I am intrigued to know what the wk 1 sales of this title will be. Bauers managing director Stuart Williams denied suggestions they were cashing in, admitting “I don’t think we’re going to make a lot of money out of it.”

The National Magazine Company has release a standalone, one-off commemorative issue covering 132-pages also at the retail price of £2.99. Entitled Michael Jackson – Tribute to a Legend the collectors edition will was printed to 200,000 copies and was produced by Reveal’s Michael Butcher and his team.

When such an icon and recognised figure becomes the focus for whatever reason to  the press and public eye it can create a platform in which society can feed from for emotional or knowledgeable gain. This something that can be exploited, not necessarily or always in a derogative way but in a direction that offers mass inspiration and feeling which can often console or educate those in need.

So if it hasn’t yet clicked, the festival period is quickly approaching, a sign of this is the blazing sun which appears set to offer us hot days for the summer day’s ahead and the barrage of marketing campaigns promoting the music gatherings through various brand partnerships to win tickets and such.

2008 saw some huge acts and memorable sets, note Jay-Z at Glastonbury and 2009 promises to be bigger and better.

Headliners this year include the Kings of Leon, Radiohead & the Arctic Monkeys (Leeds Festival– 28th-30th August), The Killers, Oasis & The Wombats (V Festival– 22nd-23rd August), The Prodigy, Franz Ferdinand & Lady GaGa at Glastonbury (24th-28th June). In addition the UK based festivals, a lot of european stages have been causing a lot of excitement over the years, higlights including Barcelona’s Benacassim and Serbia’s EXIT festival whose line-up is very similar to the above but generally offer a better atmosphere at a fraction of the price despite their locations.

mediahustler has already confirmed his attendance to the three day fortress festival EXIT (9th-12th July with acts including Moby, Manic Street Preachers, Grandmaster Flash, Kissy Sell Out, DubFire, Korn, Lily Allen and more) and Victoria Park’s LoveBox (18th-19th July / N.E.R.D. Frankmusik, Florence & The Machine, Ladyhawke, Simian Mobile Disco and Chipmunk).

Other weekenders which massively appeal are the Secret Garden Party(23rd-26th July), hidden away in fields of Huntingdonshire. Their line-up includes Jarvis Cocker, the Guildean Gang, The Holloways and mediahustler favourite, TRIP. In addition to the music, SGP has an array of , let’s say ‘alternative’ acitivites such as naked Jenga, paint wars and the burning of a pirate ship…

This year is sure to equal if not surpass the usual antics & shenanigans of this event various spectacles and parades, art installations and theatre performances. Out of all the festivals SGP is one of the friendliest and the atmosphere is second to none. A definite if you are new to the festival scene.

Another one high on the agenda is the electric dance festival Global Gathering (24th-25th July), known to attract people from all over the world is preparing for festival just as big as last year. 2008’s best moments included an awesome set from Mark Ronson with an appearance from Wiley for a rendition of ‘Wearing My Rolex’, the incredible sight of the Red Arrows soaring through the sky paying homage to the event and a great set from artist Killa Kella.

Headliners this year include Pendulum, Orbital and Paul Van Dyk – look out for key sets from E.R.O.L. James Zabiela, the Scratch Perverts & DJ Yoda too.

PPQ for Vodafone PPPARTY >

Last night saw the launch of PPQs collaboration with mobile service provider Vodafone in which they created a rather chic and stylish bag to protect and transport their Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook.

PPQ

mediahustler managed to blag an invite to the event held at PARAMOUNT in London last night and admittedly schmoozed & boozed more than I expected, in my defence the free Barcadi Mojitos and Peroni were too good to decline.

Also in attendance were Lola and Tali Lennox, Leah Wellar, Assisi Jackson, Jazzy De-Lisser, Fifi Brown, and obviously PPQ designers Amy and Percy

Word on the top level venue was that Peaches Geldof was on the phone to the girls all night letting them know she was on the way – but she left as soon as she turned up because she’d heard Feris was inside – awkward…

Prince Harry’s new love interest Caroline Flack was also there eyeing up the PPQ bags as DJ’s c’est jour Broken Hearts were playing their usual retro-spectacular set.

The venue was packed, even beyond its finishing time to which the guests hurried to the after party at West End club M*vida where Clack, Amy and Percy all hit the decks.

Overall it was a great night, highlight to this beyond the drinks was meeting American VOGUE editor Mark Holgate…

Until the next party, mediahustler out…

Kanye West, this isn’t your best! >

Kanye West. Check. Rihanna. Check. Good video. Un-check…

…that’s right, whilst attempting to take the usual artistic route, ‘Yeezy’ introduces the latest music video for the track “Paranoid” (taken from his critically acclaimed 808s & Heartbreak album) but in mediahustler’s opinion it just doesn’t impress.

Whilst his previous music videos have captured the flair and feeling of the songs well, unfortunately this one, even with the sexy and sultry chart topper Rihanna just lacks his usual style and swagger.

Have a look for yourself and let me know your thoughts…

Put a DONK on it! >

“What’s this business?” I hear you say, well mediahustler has just learnt too…basically yeah, it’s like the that phat beat on a song to make it bangin’. Like a London night bus with yoofs playing out ringtones, it’s that loud bass noise that repeats, then rewinds, then does it again innit!?

A term penned by ‘rudeboy’ DJs The Blackout Crew, the ‘donk‘ has now been laced in to a track to celebrate the launch of the Vinspired award scheme, adding some bounce and beats and their infamous donk to a song made by volunteers called ‘We Are The V’s’ they have created another possible hit – full of comedy value of course!

Let’s hope that the added bonus of working with an admirable and worthy charity like V Inspired can surpass the popularity of their previous tune which has over 4.6 million views to date.

V aims to increase volunteering amongst 16-25 year olds across England inspiring them to take action others overcome barriers which affect lives, communities, and the planet.

Have a look at the donking genius below…
